The Nutrition-Stress Connection
Presented by Amanda Scott, Registered Holistic Nutritionist
Everyone experiences stress and we all have to eat - but is there a connection between our diet and our stress? The foods we eat plays an essential role in our over all health - and stress is a part of that! Stress can lead us to make different dietary choices and the foods we eat can also impact our stress and recovery from it. In this workshop (is that the right word?) we will explore the connection between stress and nutrition and learn some tips to harness the power of nutrition to support your body through stressful times.
ABOUT AMANDA
Amanda Scott studied Biological Science and Nutrition and Nutraceutical Science at the University of Guelph and upon graduating became a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. She's worked in different areas of the health and wellness industry since attaining her certifications. As a mom to an active toddler, good nutrition and staying active is very important!

Transform Your Genes to Transform Yourself!
Presented by Dr. Penny Kendall-Reed, ND
Our bodies are controlled by a set of genetic instructions known as our genome or chromosomal blueprint. Our individual DNA provides codes for everything from eye colour to antibody production; It determines our risk for disease, our reaction to stress, our response to illness or injury and how we respond to food, exercise, and medication. For example, metabolism and body weight is up to 70% controlled by our genetic coding. This allows us to
see why some people respond well to high-protein low-carb diets, while for others it is
inefficacious or increases weight. It explains why curcumin or turmeric increases inflammation
in some people and decreases it in others. What fits your body best is all coded in your DNA.
While we can’t change our genes, we can change the strength with which they express their
traits. This can be achieved through natural supplements, diet, exercise, and other lifestyle variables. Decoding your genetic data provides you with a detailed blueprint of how your body works and advises you how to minimize specific health risks and your reaction to factors such as foods, exercise and stress to create your own personalized health plan to truly transform
yourself.
